Tips for Using the FURminator

One of the biggest challenges owners face when trying to deshed their dog is that they allow the undercoat to build up and before trying to remove it, and that results in trying to remove too much of the fur at once. Since the teeth on the FURminator are fine and so close together it takes a lot strokes to remove loose undercoat fur, especially if your dog is a breed with a thick undercoat. That kind of repeated brushing can be irritating to your dog’s skin. Instead, you should do smaller brushing sessions more frequently. We recommend that you brush for 5-7 minutes 2-3 times per week during shedding seasons, and once a week during the rest of the year. Undercoat is also much easier to remove on dogs who are clean, conditioned, and dry – never use a Furminator on a wet dog, that will only rip and tear at their coat.

There’s no question that the FURminator is the top selling dog brush on the market today. Not only does it bring out your pet’s natural oils, promoting healthier skin and a shiny topcoat but it keeps your dog happy and comfortable. The FURminator comes in various widths to suit the size of your dog, as well as specialized for long or short fur length. There is a FURminator for every dog!

Furminator always reminded me of the Terminator movie haha. I own two dogs at the moment, but they are short haired. They always love to have their fur brushed though on occasion lie on their sides making it harder to cover the entire backside.
Appreciate the tips on how to properly brush the undercoat since my dogs always shed stray hairs and I couldn’t get under their stiff top layer of fur.

Maybe the FURminator is named such because it “terminates” shedding? I think it might be a play on words and it’s meant to remind you of the Terminator 🙂

This gadget looks amazing. I use to have a German shepherd and he would shed so much fur all over our house. I like how it removes loose fur and then also gets rid of dead fur that will fall out soon anyways but leaves the healthy fur. Sounds like a winner and I will keep this in mind when we get our next dog.
