Short Haired Dogs
Short haired dogs typically don’t require much in the way of coat care; with a very dense coat they do not need more than two or three brushes a week. Of course, within the breeds there are different characteristics of the fur that will stipulate whether you should brush them more or less. For example, the Chihuahua, despite being a dog with short fur, tends to shed quite a bit and therefore needs to be brushed more frequently than other short-haired dogs like Dalmatians or Boxers, which don’t shed as much.
Dogs with Medium Length Fur
Dogs with medium length fur, such as the German Shepherd, the Border Collie or the Golden Retriever, require a little more coat care than short-haired dogs. They require a minimum of four brushings per week. Again, it will depend on your dog and you may find your require more or less brushing time.
Dogs with Long Hair
If your dog has long fur you should strive to brush them every day to help reduce tangles and mats. Using the FURminator DeShedding Tool will not only keep tangles at bay, but it will remove loose, dead fur from the undercoat without damaging the topcoat, and will reduce shedding by up to 90%, in most cases.
